IT infrastructure services and support to enable your business to meet its challenges and thrive

Your project manager, Steve Tyrrell looked after us very well thank you.  The tech guys who will be using the cabling to install our hard wired IT and our new telephone system came to have a look at what they would be working with and were very impressed with the high standard your engineers achieved – They were especially pleased with the terminal cabinet.

If we are ever in a position to recommend Lynx Networks to any other organisation then we certainly would have no hesitation in doing so based on the excellent service we received.

Server Virtualisation

Here’s a bold claim: Whatever you are trying to achieve with IT today, server virtualisation will allow you to get there.

Today our customers want to:

indecision Save money
indecision Reduce management complexity
indecision Improve availability
indecision Be more flexible
indecision Use less power
indecision Buy less hardware
indecision Do more with less

Server virtualisation allows significant consolidation of server numbers by removing the association between hardware and software. The usual incompatibilities between critical applications is eradicated by convincing those apps that they have their own dedicated hardware, even though they are happily residing on the same device as another app that would normally cause them to crash.

A management console allows the entire server estate to be managed from a single pane of glass. In fact integration with the network and storage infrastructure means policies can be designed to automate the entire process involved with provisioning a server.

In addition to reducing the hardware estate, virtualisation can significantly improve availability. Virtual machines are not tied to the server hardware which means they can be moved from device to device without downtime. Hardware maintenance, software updates and patches can be applied without having to stop key services to staff or customers.  Productivity and profitability will be increased as a result.

Virtualisation will save you money, time, confusion and worry whilst improving performance and profitability. Virtualisation allows IT to become an even better business tool and less of an expense.

  • iSCSI vs Fiber Channel

    iSCSI vs Fiber Channel

Traditional SANs (Storage Area Network) have used a protocol called Fiber Channel (FC) which is a block level protocol that runs over fibre networks and offers the highest levels of performance and reliability. It has also been inherently expensive. iSCSI is also a block level protocol that... [more...]

  • Should you invest in Cat6a?

    Should you invest in Cat6a?

The role of Cat6a (augmented) cabling is to support 10Gig Ethernet; that is its only advantage over Cat5e and Cat6, but a ten-fold improvement in bandwidth is pretty impressive. The other side of the scales has a couple of disadvantages; you need to decide which way the scales tip for any... [more...]

Storage - Just bigger and cheaper?

A few years ago, everyone was talking about Information Lifecycle Management (ILM). This involved moving data to less expensive hardware and would save money and maximise efficiency. That was until the green agenda took over. The challenge was to reduce power consumption; this is generally... [more...]

    Tape backup's place

Experts have been predicting the end of tape backup for years. However, at Lynx Networks, we never provide a server solution without carefully considering the best way to backup the data; nine times out of ten, we recommend tape. Indeed, Sony has just announced the roadmap for their LTO... [more...]

The four key elements of BYOD

If you’re considering "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD), the first thing you have to get right is your company policy by looking at what the business requires. For example, what devices will be allowed on to your network, what network services will they need to access to and how... [more...]
