Wi-Fi breakthrough due 2010
Traditional Wi-Fi requires an access point or hot-spot for devices to attach to before they can communicate, but that’s about to change. In 2010, a new development, Wi-Fi Direct, will allow laptops, phones, cameras and other devices to connect directly on a peer to peer basis.
Existing Wi-Fi devices could be upgraded with a software download and the Wi-Fi Alliance have promised that it will be quick and very easy to use.
It will have applications in the home, in the office and in public spaces such as shopping centres. The potential applications, particularly in retail, are immense.
